Strip Clubs in Dallas: City Rules, Areas and Clubs

Dallas has more strip clubs than most US cities, but they are not spread across the map. Almost every club in our directory sits in the northwest of the city, along Stemmons Freeway (I-35E), Harry Hines Boulevard and Northwest Highway, or on the industrial streets between them. That pattern comes from one city ordinance and several decades of court cases. This guide covers the city-level rules, groups the listed clubs by area, and flags which listings to confirm before going.

Dallas city rules: Chapter 41A

Strip clubs in Dallas are regulated under Chapter 41A of the Dallas City Code, “Sexually Oriented Businesses”. The code defines an adult cabaret as a commercial establishment that regularly features adult cabaret entertainment — live entertainment emphasising what the code calls “specified anatomical areas” or “specified sexual activities”. Every sexually oriented business needs a city licence, applied for through the Dallas chief of police, and the licensing rules also reach anyone who owns 20 percent or more of a business or has substantial control over it.

The location rules are strict. Under Section 41A-13, a sexually oriented business may not operate within 1,000 feet of:

  • a church or a school;
  • a residential or historic district, or a lot in residential use;
  • a public park, a hospital or a child-care facility;
  • another sexually oriented business.

Distances are measured in a straight line, and two such businesses may not share a building. With so much of the city ruled out, the remaining clubs end up in commercial and industrial pockets.

Dallas’s rules have a long legal history. In FW/PBS, Inc. v. City of Dallas (1990), the US Supreme Court found that the city’s original licensing scheme was a prior restraint without adequate procedural safeguards, because it did not require licensing decisions within a set, brief period or guarantee prompt judicial review. The ruling did not strike down licensing of adult businesses as such; it set the procedural standard that Dallas and other cities have followed since.

The most recent change is the closing-hours rule. An ordinance passed in January 2022 requires licensed sexually oriented businesses to be closed between 2am and 6am. After the Fifth Circuit ruled for the city, the US Supreme Court declined to hear the case in March 2024; police began enforcing the rule on 30 November 2023, and in May 2024 a federal judge refused to block it in a second lawsuit. Clubs that break the rule risk a 30-day licence suspension and fines.

Texas also charges a state Sexually Oriented Business Fee under Texas Business and Commerce Code chapter 102 — since 1 September 2023, $10 per customer entry at clubs that combine nude entertainment with on-premises alcohol. For how that fee and alcohol licensing shape clubs statewide, see our guide to strip clubs in Texas.

The densest group in the directory, in a light-industrial area just north of Northwest Highway and west of I-35E, toward the Irving city line.

Stemmons industrial district

Further south, closer to downtown, two listings sit in the warehouse district along Stemmons Freeway. Both need checking before you go.

  • XTC Cabaret Dallas — 8550 N Stemmons Fwy, Dallas, TX 75247. The club’s own website now uses the name XTC 2.0 and describes it as BYOB, 21+, while some third-party listings mark the old name as closed.
  • Black Diamonds Dallas — 9009 Sovereign Row, Dallas, TX 75247. At least one third-party listing shows a different club name at this address.

Outside Dallas city limits

This listing is filed under Dallas, but its address is in Fort Worth near DFW Airport, so Dallas’s Chapter 41A rules do not apply there.

What to check before you go

  • Plan around the 2am closing. Inside Dallas city limits, licensed sexually oriented businesses must be closed from 2am to 6am, and police enforce it.
  • Confirm the name and that the club is open. Several Dallas clubs have been renamed or changed owners. Check the club’s own website or phone line on the day, especially for the two Stemmons industrial district addresses.
  • Ask about the door charge and drinks policy. Some clubs have a full bar and others are BYOB with a different age limit, and the state’s $10 per-entry fee may be passed on in the cover.
