Very few strip club markets in the world are as dominated by a single brand as South Africa’s. Of the venues listed in this directory, a third carry the Teazers name, and the chain’s sites stretch from Boksburg on the East Rand to Burg Street in central Cape Town. Understanding Teazers is more or less a prerequisite for understanding the rest of the market.
Teazers and the shadow of Lolly Jackson
Teazers was founded in June 1996 in Primrose, on the East Rand, by Emmanuel “Lolly” Jackson. It grew into a chain operating in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Midrand, Durban and Cape Town, employing roughly 300 people, and became as well known for its aggressive billboard advertising and its legal disputes as for the clubs themselves. Jackson also launched a spin-off brand, Teaze-Hers.
Jackson was shot dead in a house in Johannesburg in May 2010 at the age of 53, in a case that dominated South African news for years afterwards. The chain closed briefly out of respect and then resumed trading under its existing structure. The brand has now outlived its founder by more than fifteen years.
The practical consequence for a visitor is uniformity. A Teazers in Pretoria and a Teazers in Cape Town run to the same template, which makes them predictable — but also means the chain is no guide at all to what the independent venues are like.
Johannesburg and Gauteng
Gauteng holds the bulk of the country’s clubs, spread across the northern suburbs, the East Rand and Pretoria rather than concentrated in one district. Note that Teazers Rivonia and Teaze-Hers share the same Rivonia Boulevard address.

Cape Town and the Western Cape
Mavericks on Barrack Street is the best-documented venue in the country. It trades Monday to Saturday, 7pm to 4am, takes bookings through its own site and through the Dineplan restaurant system, and serves food alongside the stage programme.
Teazers’ Cape Town site and Stilettos Club are both listed at 16 Burg Street, so check which name is on the door.
- Mavericks Cape Town — 68 Barrack Street
- Teazers Cape Town — 16 Burg Street
- Stilettos Club — 16 Burg Street
- The Loose Goose — 7 Raglan Road, Bellville
Durban and Port Elizabeth
Coverage outside the two big metros is thin, with single listed venues in each city.
- Wonder Lounge — 510 Windermere Rd, Morningside, Durban
- Candy’s Walmer — 113 Heugh Road, Walmer, Port Elizabeth
The legal position
Sex work itself remains criminalised in South Africa under the Sexual Offences Act of 1957 and the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act of 2007, and municipal by-laws in several provinces separately prohibit soliciting. Strip clubs operate around this framework, on liquor licences and municipal entertainment permits subject to zoning and trading-hour conditions.
A Decriminalisation and Regulation of Sex Work Bill has been in progress since 2022. The Department of Justice held a workshop on it in November 2025, and as of April 2026 the bill was still short of completion. If it passes, local regulation is expected to run through municipal by-laws — meaning rules could end up differing city by city.
What to check before you go
- Confirm the venue is trading, and confirm the address. Two pairs of listings here share a single street address, and opening hours are the detail most likely to be out of date.
- Arrange transport both ways before you leave. Standard advice for Johannesburg is to use Uber or Bolt for point-to-point trips, and to book the return leg in advance rather than looking for a ride at 2am.
- Ask about the pricing structure at the door. Entry, table dances and private booths are priced separately at the chain venues, so establish what each costs before committing.
