San Payo sits on Rua Rodrigues Sampaio, just off Avenida da Liberdade and a short walk from Marquês de Pombal. Most of the central Lisbon hotels are within walking distance, which is a large part of why this one turns up on visitors’ lists.

It is a gentlemen’s club with a modern fit-out rather than an old-school bar, and it keeps late hours even by Lisbon standards.
